Gnosis i-learning Course Content

Our online distance-learning programme comprises three levels, which are all case-study-based.

Business English Case Studies

Business situations are presented in case studies that relate to all business environments and are based on modern MBA syllabi, covering topics such as:

  • Financial Reporting
  • Budgeting
  • Risk Management
  • Marketing Strategies
  • HR Strategies
  • Globalisation

These require participants to respond by writing reports, e-mails, press releases, memos, circulars, etc. in a clear, meaningful and convincing way.

Gnosis i-learning Methodology – Major Case Study and Practice Case

Before the major case study, participants go through a series of motivating activities, referred to as practice cases, to acquire knowledge and skills needed to solve the major case study. Practice cases also contain a mini case study that requires application of the business English writing skills learned.

The steps leading to the major case study:

The following are extracts from the Gnosis i-learning programme. These are not complete and are therefore not suitable for learning or for using as reference.

  • Step 1: All i-learning practice cases start with defined aims and objectives.
  • Step 2: Practice cases put the subject into context and relate it to the participant's working environment.
  • Step 3: The practice case then aims to help develop professional writing skills around a specific subject, starting with vocabulary.
  • Step 4: This is the last step before attempting the major case study on the same subject as the practice case.
  • Step 5: An example of a major i-learning case study.

Step 1

All practice cases start with defined aims and objectives, as shown here in an extract from our Analysing Financial Reports Practice Case:

Please note that different case studies will present different business situations, therefore the subject in each case will be different.

Step 2

Practice cases put the subject into context and relate it to the participant’s working environment. Example from the Analysing Financial Reports Practice Case:

Step 3

Once you are in context about the subject, the practice case then aims to help develop professional writing skills around that subject, starting with vocabulary. Example from the i-learning Employment Law Practice Case:

Below you will find a similar writing skills activity, but on a different topic, Cultural Differences:

We encourage the use of management strategy models and practise writing skills around them. Below you will find such a model from our Cultural Differences Practice Case:

Step 4

This is the last step before attempting the major case study on the same subject as the practice case. You will be applying the skills learned in the previous steps. Here is an example of a mini case study on press release writing, on the subject of Product / Service Liability:

Step 5

Below you will find an example of an i-learning case study. In this major case study you will be applying the skills learned in the practice case and will be encouraged to relate to your own work environment and experience. This is an example from our Budgeting Case Study:
